Our History

1981

Beginning Bay Air

Bay Air Systems is founded by John Morgan. Shortly after, Bay Air landed its first major project, bringing John’s expertise to redesigning the pneumatic controls on a new HVAC system at Wells Fargo Plaza in downtown Oakland which had not functioned to anyone’s satisfaction up to that point.

1982 - 1983

First Retail Clients

Bay Air lands their first big retail client, Mervyn’s Department Stores. After exceeding expectations on initial projects, Mervyn’s hires Bay Air to help build 17 new department stores in a year. This later leads to major long-term partnerships with clients such as OSH and Long’s Drugs.

Start-Up & Commissioning

Bay Air gets its start in HVAC Start-Up and Commissioning. Mervyn’s was facing post construction, new store, comfort and construction problems. We began working with their Mechanical Engineers and Contractors to identify and correct recurring problems, and make sure equipment and installation were tested, adjusted, balanced and ready for peak performance before store opening.

Driven to satisfy the growing needs of our core clients, Bay Air Systems opens its second office, in San Diego, to cover all of Southern California.

2010

Shifting Climate

Following the financial crisis of 2008, many of the retail clients we had worked with and grown with through the years had disappeared. We shifted much of our focus back to our roots of multi-tenant office buildings, becoming highly skilled at serving all of the needs of that industry, including service, equipment replacement, and working with reputable General Contractors on design/build TI and other projects. This is still the core of our business, though by no means the only industry we serve.

A new generation

After spending most of his life in the industry, Bert Morgan, John’s son, accepts the position of CEO, with a vision of a company that is more coordinated in serving the full spectrum of our clients’ needs and continuing the high-quality family business that he grew up with.
